Training Group 2001 - 2002

We have a lot of fun in the group! We are a mixed group, of differing abilities (and I'm not just talking about the coaches !), but with one thing in common - have a good time and kick (or head or save) a football.

Typical sessions involve a couple of warm-ups, followed by individual skills training. Some of the kids can even keep the ball in the air longer than the coaches can during "keepy-uppy". Then we play some competitive games to wrap up - usually the highlight as we encourage them to try out the skills they have learnt and practised during the session.

All the kids have come on tremendously over the last year or two that they have been with us. They have developed from the "bees round a honey pot" school of football, to a passing game with some great individual skills but also a very supportive bunch of kids.  They have learnt heading (most of the time in the right direction!), throw-ins, passing with inside and outside of feet, passing to space etc., and are picking up the basics of positional play. This year we'll be looking to get greater awareness around the field, so they can anticipate passages of play and begin to "make things happen" more regularly in the games.

We play a few tournaments at the end of the year - we win some games, lose some games, but we always have some fun (and whatever position we finish in, we always get a medal). But the best thing is how the kids react to one another if there's an injury or accidental foul - they are always concerned, and want to help the injured player. This is what sport , and WEZWA, is all about.

Photos

As you can imagine, the site would be a bit dull without the odd photo of our kids.  Asking you permission for every child on a group photo could be difficult.  However, we would like to ensure that no children are identified in photos without express permission. So, to simplify things, if anyone objects to any photo posted, please contact us via the "contact us" form, specifying the photo and if it is a group photo, we will obscure your child's face so that it is not recognisable, and if it is a close-up shot, it will be removed immediately.
